Basement Rooftop

Background introduction

The basement rooftop (podium deck) forms the top slab of an underground structure and separates the basement from the ground level above. It is exposed to rainwater, surface water, irrigation, and long-term moisture. Since the waterproofing system is concealed beneath the finished surface, any leakage can be difficult and costly to repair once construction is completed.

A composite waterproofing system consisting of CQ112 Non-Curable Rubber Asphalt Waterproof Coating and SBS Elastomer Modified Waterproof Membrane provides long-lasting waterproof protection. The non-curable coating offers excellent adhesion and self-healing performance, while the SBS membrane delivers a durable, puncture-resistant waterproof barrier that accommodates minor structural movement.

Program description

1. Reinforced concrete basement rooftop slab.

2. Prepare the substrate by ensuring it is clean, smooth, dry, and structurally sound.

3. Apply CQ112 Non-Curable Rubber Asphalt Waterproof Coating evenly over the concrete surface.

4. Install the SBS Elastomer Modified Waterproof Membrane using the hot-melt torch-on method, ensuring full adhesion and properly sealed overlaps.

5. Reinforce corners, expansion joints, drains, and pipe penetrations with additional waterproof detailing.

6. Install a protection screed, protection board, or drainage layer where required.

7. Complete the specified finishing layer, such as landscape, planter, paving, tiles, or other architectural finishes.

Matters needing attention

● Ensure the substrate is clean, sound, dry, and free from dust, oil, loose materials, and standing water.

● Repair all cracks, honeycombs, and surface defects before waterproofing installation.

● Apply CQ112 evenly without missed areas or excessive build-up.

● Ensure all SBS membrane laps are fully heat-welded and securely sealed.

● Reinforce waterproofing details around corners, drains, expansion joints, and pipe penetrations.

● Install the protection layer immediately after waterproofing to prevent damage during subsequent construction.

● Conduct a water ponding test where applicable before installing the final finishing layer.

● Avoid installation during rain or when environmental conditions are unsuitable for proper membrane bonding and coating application.
